Notes:
On the departure of the Princess Royal (iii), a successor was immediately laid down for Messrs Langlands, the service being meanwhile maintained by chartered vessels. The new Princess Royal, fourth of the name, started plying in June 1863, and was the first steamer employed on the West Highland service, which her owners instituted in 1870. She had just been lengthened, so could take a big cargo. After one voyage on that route, she went on charter to a Marseilles firm, her place being taken by the chartered vessels Silver River and Lochaber.
Princess Royal was sold in 1872 and became the Spanish steamer Juan G. Meiks of Havana.
