Royal Consort was built for the Fleetwood-Ardrossan service in the 1840s was frequently at work on the Belfast-Fleetwood and (London)derry-Fleetwood crossings, being run by the Fleetwood and Ardrossan Steam Packet Co. Her Majesty was wrecked in April 1849. In 1850-51 Royal Consort, with Princess Alice and Fenella, were placed on the Glasgow (London)derry route, meeting the Train from Glasgow at Troon. Runs were also made to (London)derry and Portrush.
Railway passenger services from Troon Harbour ceased at the end of October 1850. In February 1851 the Royal Consort, Princess Alice and Fenella returned to the Fleetwood station.
She was sold to Messrs J Jack & Company of Liverpool, and new boilers were installed in 1866. The Royal Consort remained in service until 1869 by which time she was registered in the name of two railway companies; L.& Y.R. and L.N.E.R. Towards the end of her career returned a record time of 8 hours 9 minutes for the run from Fleetwood to Belfast. She was sold to A & B Stewart, Birkenhead in 1870 and was off the Lloyd's Register by 1891. [Irish Passenger Steamship Services, D.B. McNeill]
